K-pop idol MINNIE of (G)I-DLE and pop diva Joey Yung unite for the first time3! Another spectacular show to promote racing tourism

Following last year’s debut invitation of a K-pop superstar for the opening performance, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is delighted to continue bringing music icons from Korea to Sha Tin Racecourse. This year, MINNIE of (G)I-DLE will take centre stage in the Parade Ring alongside local pop diva Joey Yung, promising electrifying performances that will light up this prestigious international racing event.

MINNIE, the Thai member of renowed K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE, expressed her excitement about participating in a Hong Kong horse racing event for the first time: "It's an honour to perform in the Parade Ring at Sha Tin Racecourse. This is my first experience at a Hong Kong racing event, and I can’t wait to witness such world-class competition while interacting with passionate fans. I hope to see friends and fans from Hong Kong and around the world join this spectacular event – it will definitely be an unforgettable experience!"

MINNIE has long admired Hong Kong's dance-pop diva Joey Yung. During (G)I-DLE’s concert in Hong Kong last year, the group performed a cover of Joey’s classic hit My Pride, which received an hugely enthusiastic response. Now, knowing that she'll have the opportunity to meet Joey in person, MINNIE is absolutely thrilled to be sharing the stage with this legendary singer.

Having performed at various prestigious racing events in the past, pop diva Joey Yung will make her fourth appearance at Sha Tin Racecourse. "Growing up near Sha Tin Racecourse, I was always surrounded by the excitement of the races," she recalls. "I often heard the cheers of the crowd as I passed by, creating a lively and thrilling atmosphere. Every time I perform at the Racecourse, it brings back fond childhood memories and a strong sense of familiarity. I can truly feel the enthusiasm of the audience and the electrifying energy of the races. Witnessing world- class jockeys and champion horses in action is an exhilarating experience!"

Relishing the prospect of performing alongside (G)I-DLE’s MINNIE for the first time, Joey said “I’ve been following (G)I-DLE for quite a while. When they held their first concert in Hong Kong last year, I was able to attend it and sent flowers to cheer them on. I was so surprised and delighted when they covered my song My Pride – I couldn’t help but sing along with the audience! This time, having the opportunity to open the event with MINNIE for FWD Champions Day is truly exciting. I look forward to delivering energetic and diverse performances with MINNIE that blend different Asian music cultures. Hopefully, this will attract more locals and visitors to get immersed in the vibrant and thrilling atmosphere of Hong Kong horse racing.”

With the Government having been actively promoting horse racing tourism recently, Joey has already introduced the idea of a "Racecourse One-Day Tour", jokingly calling herself a "pioneer ambassador" for racing tourism! She humorously describes herself as part of the "blind pick" group, occasionally joining friends to participate in horse racing events for fun. Even though she doesn’t fully understand horse race betting, she enjoys the experience, believing that win or lose, it’s still for a good cause. Having previously performed at the 2023 Lunar New Year Raceday, she is eagerly looking forward to returning as a guest performer this year, planning to place a few bets to test her luck and fully immerse herself in the thrilling raceday atmosphere.

Renowned for their musical talent and captivating stage presence, MINNIE and Joey have won the hearts of fans worldwide. This first-ever shared performance is set to draw local racing fans and international visitors to Sha Tin Racecourse, eager to witness these two superstars lighting up the stage. Beyond performing their hit songs in the Parade Ring, both stars will join racegoersto cheer for the elite horses and jockeys competing in the three Group 1 races, celebrating the crowning of new champions together. Adding to the excitement, a variety of interactive entertainment and activities will be on offer throughout the racecourse, creating a diverse and immersive racing experience for racegoers.

Local band Pandora—who delivered a highly-praised performance at last year’s FWD Champions Day – will be back once again this year. Performing between races underneath Mezza One in the Public Betting Hall, they will bring an energetic live band experience to the event, intensifying its lively and festive atmosphere.
